Another example of how Congress is at least as communal as any other party..
The text below is copied from thehindu.com dated March 28, 2009 showing what the Congress Minority Cell Chairman is saying to polarise the muslims against the BJP (Hindus).

EC notice to Imraan Kidwai
Special Correspondent
NEW DELHI: The Election Commission has issued notice to Congress Minority Cell chairman Imraan Kidwai for his alleged inflammatory speech asking Muslims not to go with the Bharatiya Janata Party as it would amount to committing “kufr” (infidelity or blasphemy).
The Commission, which went through the copy of the speech made near the Jama Masjid in Chandigarh on March 15, in the notice on Friday, said the statements were violative of the Sub clauses (1) to (4) of Clause (I) of the model code of conduct. It would also amount to promoting enmity between different groups on the grounds of religion and making speech prejudicial to the national integration and was punishable under Sections 153A and 153B of the IPC and Sec. 125 of the Representation of the People Act, 1951.

This is not a surprise to most people and therefore, there won't be much hue and cry from the BJP or other parties. However, the silence from the so-called secular parties such as the Left is deafening. Again, not a surprise though since they are not going to affect their muslim vote banks by saying anything now..

Varun Gandhi screw up
One of the biggest disasters for BJP pre-election is the Varun Gandhi episode. While theoretically, it has not been proved that he uttered those anti-muslim comments, his reactions don't seem to indicate innocence on his part. Instead of appearing indignant and angry about the doctored tape and saying how he has muslim friends, etc, he has been sort of defending his statements and putting BJP on a major defensive and setting them back several notches in their relationship with the muslims.
It is in these times that Shri LK Advaniji should take a very serious leadership role and make sure Varun is made an example of so that the public (esp the muslims) knows where he stands on this issue and there is no recurrence of this again.
The BJP should also get rid of rubbishing congress by saying they are "pseudo secular" when they are simply anti-hindu. Calling Congress "anti-hindu" is very direct and clear.

Secular Alliance and Secularism
Ram Vilas Paswan, Lalu and Mulayam have joined together in Bihar and UP to form the so called "Secular" Alliance. I believe Mulayam has zero influence in Bihar and Paswan/Lalu have the same zero influence in UP. Therefore, this is not much of an alliance in these states. However, they could jointly form a 4th front which might merge with some other front to become the majority coalition to run the government and also have better leverage while negotiating for the Prime Minister's post.
The other interesting thing about this alliance is the "secular" tag. It is now common to say that if people are pro-muslims or pro-christians, they are secular. In other words, it is fashionable and secular to be anti-hindu. As long as the yadavs or their immediate caste/sect members get to rule, who cares about the other hindus or jains or sikhs?
If these people really cared about being secular, they would have given people of every religion equal treatment with respect to going on pilgrimages, managing their places of worship, etc.
Either they should help deserving members of all religions to go on pilgrimages of their choice or help members of no religion. Similarly, the government should administer Churches, Mosques and Temples equally or leave them to the respective religious leaders. The Government should absolutely not interfere in the religious matters.
Currently, only the muslims get to go on Haj Pilgrimage with Government money. In AP, the Christians also get to go because YSR is a Christian and wants to help members of his religion but what about the Hindus? Don't they want to go to Vaishno Devi or Varanasi or Badrinath/Kedarnath, etc.
This is the one-sided secularism that is prevalent in India. I wish somebody would be brave enough to define these concepts very clearly for all to see.

2009 General Elections
I really think these 2009 elections are going to be very interesting. It seemed just a couple of months ago that it may be one-sided with Congress winning fairly easily but now with the latest turn of events, I think the Congress should be worried, very worried.
Congress' inability to come up with a suitable seat sharing arrangement in UP and Bihar will certainly affect its chances in those states. Of course, there is a good chance that Mulayam Singh and Lalu will re-join UPA after the elections but they also cannot be trusted.
PMK jumping ship to ally with AIADMK is a big blow to the INC in Tamil Nadu.
The BJP also lot an important ally in BJD in Orissa and they have also lost foothold in AP without TDP's support.
The third front suddenly looks reasonably good. While India may hit a new low making Mayawati as the Prime Minister, it may also mark the beginning of the end of the Nehru Dynasty in Politics which could be a very welcome thing.
Imagine that Rahul Gandhi's future wife has a far better chance of becoming the Prime Minister of our country than you or I no matter our qualifications and that is very sad. So, I for one, am rooting against the congress in these elections.
